Sweet Pea Childbirth Preparation was started in Washington D.C. in 2015 by Lisa Holloway, who is a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. The company was created to provide better education options for women in the DC area. Lisa, who is a mom herself, saw that there was a lack of reliable information for pregnant couples and decided to use her own experiences and skills to create a virtual pre-recorded package of courses.

At Sweet Pea Childbirth Preparation...

I structure classes to educate you in a meaningful and time saving way.

I believe confidence comes with knowing what to expect. I focus class content on getting you the baseline information you need to reduce your fear surrounding birth and early parenting.

I strive to be a trusted resource and safe space for ALL pregnant women. Classes are structured to ensure same-sex couples and single moms feel comfortable.

As Seen In…

Dear Future Student,

Your prenatal visits are focused on monitoring your health and the well-being of your unborn baby. Couples however need so much more than blood pressure and weight checks to feel ready for the birth experience. Many of my in office conversations with couples are so common that they have become the framework for my free courses. Check out Pregnant Now What?! if you are still in your first trimester and How To Choose A Birth Class if you are in your second or third trimester.

Traditionally expectant parents are referred to hospital-based childbirth education programs to learn about labor & delivery and often come back to the office disappointed, feeling that they spent a lot of valuable time attending an impersonal class that lacked the information they needed and wanted. For many years this was the only option.

With more than 17 years of clinical experience, I noticed trends in patient questions and concerns and the absence of available information for women about their bodies and childbirth. Armed with these trends and knowledge from thousands of patient visits, I know what expectant mothers need to know for their birth. I ensure expectant mothers and their partners receive the information they need AND want so they are prepared for their birth.

Expectant women are always asking friends and family for advice. At Sweet Pea I strive to be your trustworthy resource. I hope to instill you with the confidence you need to have the best birth possible. I can not minimize for you the sometimes overwhelming aspects of parenthood but I can help you be more prepared to bring your new baby home.

See you in class!

Sincerely,

Lisa Holloway RN, MSN, WHNP

Experience: I am a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Women's Health Care and I have lived and worked in the Washington, DC area since 2005. I have an active Obstetric and Gynecology practice, and am the founder of Sweet Pea Childbirth Preparation. I am also a Certified Childbirth Educator and in the process of becoming certified as an Infant Sleep Coach. My work history and prior experience includes serving as the sole practitioner at a non-profit clinic focused on serving low income and uninsured patients, delivering private childbirth education for expectant families and working as a registered nurse in the labor and delivery unit at Georgetown University Hospital. I have also served as a preceptor for nurses working towards their own advanced practice goals and am very proud of my experience which has shaped my passion for helping women to deliver in their desired way and assisting them in caring for themselves and their new babies.

Teaching Philosophy: Pregnancy is a time of amazing beauty. I strive to enhance that experience for each woman with whom I interact. I believe that women are strong and capable and attempt to empower my clients through education.  I also endeavor to inject realistic expectations and a healthy sense of humor into each class. I feel strongly that childbirth education enhances birth satisfaction and work to provide the most accurate and compassionate care possible. As a mentor I focus on teaching other providers how to deliver compassionate and thoughtful care through communication and trust building interactions with clients.

Proudest Achievement: I am most proud to be a mother to three beautiful children. Being a mom is the best thing I have ever done and shapes many of my professional interactions. I would be honored to be part of your journey towards motherhood!
